In December, California-based company QuantomScape announced figures for some of its lithium-ion, solid-state batteries designed for use in electric cars, and the company was arguably successful. Can 80% of all-electric car batteries be charged in just 15 minutes a day?
QuantomScape promises exactly that, که mainly because it uses solid electrolyte instead of liquid electrolyte, and the positive pole of the battery is lithium metal, which acts as a current collector when the battery is connected to the charger. In February, a team of researchers at the University of California took a creative approach to preventing dendrites from forming on lithium metal batteries. The team built a small ultrasound device and installed it inside a lithium metal battery. This device passes high-frequency sound waves through liquid electrolytes and prevents them from remaining static by circulating them.
This resulted in an even distribution of lithium on the positive pole, and we no longer saw the uneven distribution of lithium leading to the formation of dendrites. Equipped with an ultrasonic device in its tests, this battery was able to be charged from zero to 100 in just 10 minutes, and after 250 charge cycles, it remained stable.
